SALISBURY — Liana Walker was recently elected president of the Student Government Association of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.

“We are proud to welcome Liana as an ex officio member of the college’s board of trustees,” said Carl M. Short, chairman of the board.

Walker was introduced as the 2017-18 SGA leader at a recent board of trustees meeting.

Walker, a 2016 graduate of William A. Hough High School in Charlotte, has been involved with student leadership at Rowan-Cabarrus since September 2016.

She represented Rowan-Cabarrus as a delegate for both fall and spring conferences for the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association.

“I am honored to become the SGA president,” Walker said. “I hope to help students see that the possibilities are endless, no matter where they are in their academic journey.”

Walker is working toward being accepted into the Rowan-Cabarrus radiography program. She hopes to enhance her team-building, public speaking and leadership skills.

“College is about more than just the classes. At Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, students are encouraged to get involved in activities and organizations beyond the classroom that take their education to the next level,” said college President Carol S. Spalding. “We’re proud to help develop leaders and to help them find ways to be engaged in their communities.”
