SALISBURY — Rowan County authorities Thursday identified a Charlotte teenager who, along with four others, was issued a citation for trespassing at American Quarry.

The teen lost a finger while at the quarry Monday.

Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said 17-year-old Davis Hamilton was issued a criminal summons to appear in court for the misdemeanor offense.

Hamilton was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Monday. He was gone before deputies arrived at the quarry. The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Monday at 1025 Dunns Mountain Road.

A Granite Quarry-Faith police officer said several people showed up at the fire department to ask for help.

Investigator Todd Taylor of the Granite Quarry-Faith joint Police Authority said health care privacy laws prevent him from disclosing the nature of the teen’s injuries. Taylor said it is his understanding that the teenagers crawled over a section of fence that a tree had partially mashed down.

Officials cited four teenagers for trespassing: Jones Bruner, 16; William Mcland, 16; Matthew Givens, 16; and Kevin Moore, 16. All are from Charlotte.

They will make their first court appearances July 14.
