Area Sports Briefs: East Jr. Legion team 13-0

East Rowan rolled against Salisbury, 9-0, in Junior Legion baseball on Monday to stay undefeated.

Winner Jake Davis pitched into the fifth inning for East (13-0), and Blake White and Corbin Moss completed the shutout.

Davis went 3-for-4 at the  plate and drove in two runs. Moss, Matthew Mathis and Bryson Wagner had two hits each.

East just added Wagner, a rising junior, who was sent down from the Rowan American Legion team when it had to make the final cutdown from 20 to 18 players.

On Sunday, East rallied for three runs in the seventh to beat Carson, 4-3.

The game featured a pitching duel between East’s Jake Hunter and Carson’s Cole Hales.

Davis pitched the seventh for East and got the win. Mathis delivered the game-winning hit.

Legion baseball

Winners of 15 straight, the Rowan County American Legion team heads to Northwest Cabarrus tonight to take on the Kannapolis team at 7 p.m.

Intimidators

Kannapolis catcher Seby Zavala was named SAL Player of the Week. The SAL All-Star Game is tonight in Columbia, S.C.
