Nation’s history is black and white

Dr. Ada Fisher in her June 8 article, “Despite anger … ,” was very candid about race issues. She also reminds Republicans of their history as the party who did the most for the black community from 1870 to 1930. The great abolitionist Frederick Douglass once said, “The Republican Party is the ship, all else is the ocean.”

Who cares about American history any more? Both parties could use a refresher course! Did you know that free blacks fought in the American Revolution and that some like James Amistad were heroes?

For further enlightenment, check out historian David Burton of wall builders.com. His “American History in Black & White” is first rate. Also, noted economist Thomas Sowell, whose books on race are in our Salisbury library for all to enjoy.
