Rowan weather: Chance of storms on the increase

We’re entering a period of unsettled weather as the heat and humidity climb, making the atmosphere unstable and likely to produce thunderstorms.

The chance of showers and storms today is 40 percent, with storms arriving as early as 10 a.m. It will be partly sunny with a high of 87 and light south southwest wind in the afternoon.

Some storms could produce frequent lightning, locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds and hail the size of quarters.

Tonight’s chance of storms is the same, with patchy fog forming around 4 a.m. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 67 and light southwest wind. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, except higher amounts in heavy storms.

Wednesday has a 30 percent chance of showers and storms, mostly after 1 p.m. Patchy fog is likely before 8 a.m. It will be partly sunny and 89, with west wind at 5 mph in the afternoon.

Wednesday night also has a 30 percent chance of rain, with mostly cloudy skies and a low of 69.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms climbs to 60 percent Thursday, mainly after 4 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy and 85, with light north northeast wind. The chance of rain is 40 percent Thursday night, wit a low of 69.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely again on Friday, with another 60 percent chance of rain, mainly after 3 p.m. It will be mostly cloudy and 86. The same chance of rain continues Friday night, with a low of 68.

Saturday has a 40 percent chance of showers and storms and will be mostly cloudy and 86. The same chance of rain for Saturday night, with a low of 69.

Sunday also has a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high of 88. The chance of rain decreases to 30 percent Sunday night, with a low of 70.

Then it’s back to a 40 percent chance of storms and showers Monday, with partly sunny skies and a a high of 88.
