Today: Old Smith Grove View Baptist Church

LEXINGTON — Old Smith Grove View Baptist Church, located at Linwood-Southmont Road, will celebrate the third anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. James Ledbetter III and First Lady Jessie Ledbetter. The event will be a gospel concert and will start at 5 p.m. On Sunday at 4 p.m. there will be a guest speaker, Bishop Reginald Kellam, from Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in High Point. Dinner will also be served.

Two services at Stallings Memorial Baptist Church

Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, 817 S Main St., will hold two special services and a Creation Seminar on Sunday. The 9:15 a.m. service is titled “Creation 2 Communion,” and the 10:30 a.m. service is titled “Foundation on Fire.” At 4:30 p.m. there will be a church cookout with hamburgers and hotdogs served in the fellowship hall. The cookout is to be followed by the Creation Seminar at 6 p.m. The subject of the seminar is “Fossils, Flood, Noah’s Ark and Dinosaurs.” The seminar will be led by the Rev. Steve Levinson.

Mount Zion UCC to recognize recipients

Men’s Day at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist

ROCKWELL — St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 508 Watkins St., will be observing its Annual Men’s Day on Sunday. The 11 a.m. speaker will be the home pastor, the Rev. John Geter. The 3 p.m. speaker will be the Rev. Darrell L. Thomas, pastor of Union Baptist Church in Lexington.

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist celebrates Men’s Day

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, will celebrate with its annual Men’s Day program on Sunday at 3 p.m. The church will form a men’s combined choir. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tracy Caldwell of New Piney Grove of Landis. The host pastor is the Rev. Clarence E. Marlin.

Shepherd’s Care at Outreach Christian Ministries

Outreach Christian Ministries Intl. will be having a Shepherd’s Care service on Sunday. The speaker will be Pastor Timothy Bates from Cameron Presbyterian and Calvary Presbyterian in Statesville. The service will start at 4 p.m. at 722 W. Horah St.

First UMC offers Choral Evensong

The Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., will offer a service of Choral Evensong Sunday at 4 p.m. Based on the services held daily in the medieval Church, Choral Evensong as arranged in the Book of Common Prayer of the Anglican Church, has been sung regularly since the 16th century.

The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti, with music under the direction of Matthew Michael Brown. Music will include works of Richard Ayleward, Edward Bairstow, Philip Stopford and the Evening Canticles in B-Flat by Charles Villiers Stanford. Graduates honored at Ebenezer Lutheran Church

CHINA GROVE — Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 4914 Old Beatty Ford Road, will honor its graduating seniors during the Sunday worship service. Graduates are: Jacob Cheeseman, Tyler Peacock and Christian Rape.  Jacob Cheeseman is the son of Chad and Shannon Cheeseman, graduating from Jesse Carson High School and attending Catawba in the fall. Tyler Peacock is the son of Mark and Rhonda Peacock, graduating from South Rowan High School and attending UNC-Chapel Hill.  Christian Rape is the son of Jennifer Rape Hancock, graduating from Jesse Carson High School and attending Catawba in the fall.

ERHS Baccalaureate service

Christiana Lutheran Church, 6190 US Hwy 52 between Granite Quarry and Rockwell, will host the Baccalaureate Service for the East Rowan High School Class of 2017 on Sunday at 5 p.m. The seniors will process into the church to Pomp and Circumstance played by music director Becky Morris. Haley Cole, senior class president, will welcome everyone. Emily Avalos and Hannah Mayhew will sing. The scripture lessons will be read by Sawyer Russell and Lauren Wilsey. Remarks will be given by student body president Hannah Mayhew, student body vice president Emily Avalos, and Laurie Wyrick.

In My Father’s House to host community awareness service

In My Father’s House, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, meets the first two Thursdays of each month from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The next service will be on June 8 in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library. At this service there will also be a Community Awareness Town Meeting. A special invitation is extended to pastors, councilwomen and councilmen, firemen, first responders, community advocates, the mayor, widows and widowers, parents and the elderly. “And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness” (James 3:18).

Hot dog fundraiser for the Finks

KANNAPOLIS — First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road, will hold a hot dog fundraiser Saturday, June 10 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. with hotdogs, homemade chili, slaw and desserts. Proceeds will go to Jake and Victoria Fink to assist with her cancer treatments.

All Patriotic Music concert 

CONCORD — The 50-voice Piedmont Choral Society and Guest Community Singers will present an encore performance of the “All Patriotic Music” concert on Sunday, June 25 at 3 p.m. at Forest Hill United Methodist Church, 265 Union St. North. The concert is free.

All active and veteran service personnel and their families will be recognized. The choir will perform a variety of familiar patriotic songs, including the “Salute to the Patriots” with each branch of the armed forces being individually honored, with flags of the branches being saluted and carried by those who served. Joe Morris will present a solo “Bring Him Home,”a heartfelt tribute to MIAs and POWs. And of course you’ll hear “God Bless America”, “America, the Beautiful”, “God Bless the USA” and more. Come celebrate America and those who made it great.
