Area Sports Briefs: Shepherd has strong debut

Hunter Shepherd (Catawba) won his debut with the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks of the Futures League.
Pitching the home opener in the collegiate wood bat league, Shepherd pitched six innings and struck out seven in a 6-4 victory.
Junior Legion
Bo Rusher had two hits and three RBIs in Salisbury’s 8-5 league win against Carson on Thursday.
Blaine Shellhorn had two hits and drove in a run. Rusher and Shellhorn had doubles.

Carson bounced back to rout the Kannapolis Royals, 12-2, on Friday.
Daniel Leonard had two doubles and three RBIs. Cole Hales, Devin Gay and Jake Harris had two hits each.
Logan Rogers, Andrew Bradshaw and Harris had two RBIs each.

East Rowan stayed unbeaten by pummeling the Kannapolis Cardinals, 16-6, on Friday.
East Rowan (5-0) is at Carson tonight.
Intimidators
The final 16 Kannapolis hitters went down in order in Friday’s 2-0 loss to Greensboro at Intimidators Stadium.
Yosmer Solorzano allowed just one run in seven innings, but took the loss.
