UPDATE Rowan weather: Tornado warning for parts of Rowan

UPDATE: TORNADO WARNING UNTIL 4:15 P.M., extreme northwestern Rowan County, eastern Iredell, Davie counties.

No confirmation of tornado on ground; just radar indicated at this point. Moving quickly into Davie County and northern Iredell, Mocksville, Sheffield, Fork Church and Cool Springs roads area.

Additional heavy rain and storms moving to northeast from South Carolina.

UPDATE: Tornado watch from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Widespread thunderstorms are expected to develop today. Conditions are favorable for a few of these storms to produce severe weather, in the form of damaging winds, large hail and possibly isolated tornadoes. The most likely time for any severe weather will be the mid- to late afternoon.

We are under a flash flood watch from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.

Showers and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall will cross the area today. Widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 4 inches will be possible in the stronger thunderstorms.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

The chance of rain is 80 percent, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. The high will be 73, with south wind at 5-9 mph.

Tonight’s chance of rain is 80 percent, too, with fog forming later. The low will be 60, with south wind at 6-9 mph.

Thursday has a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. It will be partly sunny, with a high of 72 and west southwest wind at 7-11 mph, gusting up to 18 mph. Thursday night will be mostly cloudy, then clearing, with a low of 55 and west southwest wind at 7-9 mph.

Friday will be sunny and 79, with west wind at 7-10 mph. Friday night will be clear, with a low of 60.

Then Saturday has a 30 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 85. The same rain chance hangs around Saturday night, with a low of 66.

Sunday has  50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms and will be partly sunny and 86. The chance of rain Sunday night is 40 percent, with a low of 66 again.

Monday, Memorial Day, has a 30 percent chance of showers, but it will be mostly sunny and 84. Same chance of rain Monday night, with thunderstorms and a low of 64.

Tuesday also has a 30 percent chance of rain, but will be mostly sunny and 83.
