Tuesday’s steady rain didn’t bother this duck walking through a puddle at City Park. But the showers prompted flood warnings across several Southern states, including North Carolina. Heavy rain from a massive storm system swept through Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas and into Virginia, according to the National Weather Service, which issued flash-flood warnings for some areas. In eastern North Carolina, a tornado touched down in Sampson County, according to the Associated Press. The fire department in the town of Autryville was destroyed when winds ripped off the roof, and fire equipment was damaged. Mobile homes nearby were also damaged, and there were ‘multiple touchdowns,’ Assistant County Manager Susan Holder told The Fayetteville Observer. Today’s forecast calls for a chance of more storms in the Rowan County area.
