Cannon takes second in state tournament

WHISPERING PINES — Cannon School finished second in the two-day NCISAA 3A championship at the Country Club of Whispering Pines here Monday and Tuesday.

Cannon’s 582 was 13 strokes behind Raleigh Ravenscroft’s 569.

Ravenscroft may have won the tournament with a sparking first-round score of 280. Cannon shot a 294 on Monday and then rebounded with a 288 on Tuesday. Ravenscroft shot a 289 during the second round.

Salisbury’s Michael Childress shot 77-78 (155) for Cannon, to finish 18th individually.

Following Ravenscroft and Cannon were Charlotte Latin (618, Durham Academy (620), Charlotte Christian (623), Asheville Christ School (624), Forsyth Country Day (629) and Charlotte Providence Day (637).
