TODAY: Henderson Grove

The men’s ministry of Henderson Grove Missionary Baptist Church will host a Gentlemen’s Tea at the Guiding Light Baptist Convention Center located at 308 Boundary St., East Spencer, today from 5 to 8 p.m. The program will feature dinner, gospel singing, Christian comedy, glamour shots and more. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased or reserved in advance by calling Deacon Anthony Mangham at  704-633-8761, Brenda McNeely at  704-636-2096, or can be purchased at the door. Proceeds will go toward making the church more accessible to the disabled. The Rev. Perry J. Dye is the host pastor.

Southern City AME Zion Church, 940 S. Long St., East Spencer, is hosting a musical program titled “Stretched Hands” with Jerel Drye and Persuaded, featuring Eddie Brown and New Horizons.

The FirstARTS
series of FUMC

The FirstARTS series of First United Methodist Church,  217 S. Church St., continues its ninth season Sunday at 11 a.m. with a service of music featuring Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass.” Composed in 2007, this ethereal work is divided between four movements and will be accompanied by a string orchestra and choir under the direction of Matthew Michael Brown, director of music and organist.

Homestead Baptist

Bridges Out of Poverty

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Mt. Ulla will present “Bridges Out of Poverty” on Wednesday.

Deacon GeoRene Jones will present the “Bridges Out of Poverty” model that identifies barriers to success and how to address them; explores how policies, procedures and practices create those barriers; and shares nine key resources (money is only one of them), etc.  This session is both for those struggling with poverty and for those dedicated to helping others succeed. Mother’s Day at NorthGate Church

Immanuel to celebrate Mother’s Day

ROCKWELL — The members of Immanuel Lutheran will celebrate Mother’s Day by adorning the church sanctuary with red and white carnations placed in honor and memory of moms past and present. Mandy Shulenburger, coordinator for the Mother’s Day event, will present gifts to women in the congregation who have reached certain milestones on their life journeys and will honor all women with tidbits of humor and sentiment. Shulenburger will especially recount the lifetime of Edith Cauble Holshouser, the oldest member of the congregation, who died this past year at 95. Holshouser’s family members will light a candle in her memory. Rev. Bruce Sheeks serves as host pastor.

Mount Zion United Church of Christ

CHINA GROVE — During the 10:30 a.m. service, the Mt. Zion church family will celebrate Mother’s Day with a candle service of remembrance and thanksgiving which will include a special Mother’s Day devotional prepared by the Nancy Fisher Women’s Circle.  All present will receive a pink carnation as a token of appreciation.

Southern City AME Zion Mother’s Day program

SOUTHERN CITY — The Missionary Department and President Elisa Jones will be observing a Mother’s Day program on Sunday at 11 a.m. Guest speaker is Rev. Barbara Barbour. Host pastor is Patrick Tate. 940 S Long St, East Spencer.

Yadkin Grove Baptist

Yadkin Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Mother’s Day during Sunday’s 11 a.m. service.

Guest speaker will be Rev.Joyce Miles, pastor of the Southside Church of God in China Grove.

Rev. Miles has spoken for women’s conferences, Christian education symposiums, and prayer conferences worldwide, including Vietnam, Russia and Ukraine.

Rev. Miles was a professor of Christian education, teaching from 1989-1999 at East Coast College, and from 1999-2013 at Lee University. She is the widow of Rev. Douglas Miles to whom she was married for 42 years.

Third Creek AME Zion

CLEVELAND — Evangelist Alease Taylor of Outreach Christian Ministries will be the morning guest speaker on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Third Creek AME Zion Church, 415 East Main St. The Rev. Harold L. Jordan is host pastor.

Antioch Missionary

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church will observe its annual Mother’s Day service on Sunday at 11 a.m. The speaker will be Minister Charlotte Pinkett, associate minister of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion. The Rev. Rickey Johnson is host pastor.

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist will host Dove Award winner and Gaither Homecoming alumni Mark Bishop in concert Sunday.  Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. This is a free event, a love offering will be received.  Friendship Baptist is located at 100 Porter Road, Salisbury. 704-633-8090.

Solid Rock Church of God

The Women’s Ministry of Solid Rock Church of God at 1004 Locke St. will host its annual prayer breakfast/brunch on Saturday, May 20 at 9 a.m.

Annie Boone-Carroll, president/owner of Boone-Carroll Funeral Home in Cleveland, will share pre-planning/pre-need funeral information. She is a member of Tower of Power United Holy Church.

Minister Sonya Galloway, first lady of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ, Spencer, will break the bread of life.  A freewill offering will be accepted. The Rev. Samuel A. Washington is host pastor.

East Spencer Mammogram Party

The Town of East Spencer, partnering with Novant Breast Health, will provide free mammograms on Wednesday from  9 a.m.-4 p.m. with refreshments and fun activities. Festivities will be held at the Town Hall building at 105 S. Long St.
