SALISBURY — Police charged a Salisbury man with the armed robbery of a couple who were sitting inside a vehicle on West Horah Street.

The robbery occurred in late April, but police issued an arrest warrant for the man Thursday.

Tracy Cameron Bernhardt, 20, of the 800 block of Laurel Pointe Circle, was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony possession of stolen goods.

The couple had agreed to pick up a friend near West Monroe Street and pulled over at 1010 W. Horah St. to call the friend.

While waiting, they said, two black men wearing hooded sweatshirts drew a 12-gauge shotgun and a 40-caliber pistol on them. The men stole cellphones, a wallet and a knife from the husband. The men ran away, and the couple drove toward the police station.

The couple met an officer outside the station. Police obtained a fingerprint from a vehicle door. One of the suspects had reached for the door handle in an attempt to get to the victims.

A pistol found in the waistband of Bernhardt’s jeans was reported stolen from Greenville, South Carolina, police said.

Bernhardt was issued a $2,500 secured bond. He has one misdemeanor larceny conviction from 2014.
