Area Sports Briefs: 2 Hornet doubles teams advance

Two Salisbury High doubles teams finished in the top four of this weekend’s individual 2A Midwest regional and qualified for the state tournament.
The team of Roarke Burton/Adam Drye took third place. They won two matches to get to the semifinals. After a semifinal, setback, they topped teammates Jander Rojas/Sean Archer in the third-place match.
Rojas/Archer also won two matches to get to the semis.
The 2A state tournament is in Cary, May 12-13.

Local golf
CAMDEN, S.C. — Salisbury’s Michael Childress and his Cannon School teammate Lansdon Robbins were eliminated Saturday in the semifinals of the 66th annual Carolinas Four-Ball Championship at Camden Country Club.
Childress and Robbins, seeded third of 32 two-man match-play teams, defeated No. 18-seeded Matthew Laydon and Chris Mitchell in a Saturday morning quarterfinal, 2 and 1.
However, in the afternoon semifinals, Childress-Robbins fell to Ryan Marter and Jack Parrott, 4 and 3. Marter and Parrott, the tournament’s No. 2-seeded team, closed the match out with an eagle-2 on the par-4 15th hole.
Childress and Robbins went down fighting, with birdies on the last two holes.
Marter and Parrott will play Justin Hood-Jake McBride in today’s championship.
Carson Jr. Legion
An organizational/paperwork meeting for Carson Junior Legion baseball will be held on Monday, May 8, at the ballfield.
Bring a parent and copy of birth certificate. A notary will be present.

Carson’s Micah Furr, Rowan County Player of the Year, will be joining the N.C. State women’s golf team as a walk-on.

Carson’s Destiny Jackson will be signing with Pfeiffer’s women’s hoops program next week.
