Linda Beck: Quotes on faith

Published 12:00 am Saturday, May 6, 2017

For the past 24 years, I have been collecting quotations written by others. I love sharing these with those of you who may have never read them. My very good friend, “the other Linda,” shares that interest and has provided over 20 steno pad pages, back and front, for me to add to my collection. She prints beautifully and I know she has patiently and lovingly spent hours printing quotations and mailing those to me.

Due to lack of transportation, we don’t get to spend much time together anymore. We do talk on the phone frequently. “The other Linda” is willing to be my guinea pig when I read my first drafts of stories to her. She doesn’t get the recognition she deserves for the finished stories, but she is such a blessing to me with her words of encouragement.

Because of limited space, I have picked some of my favorite quotes about faith. Some of you may receive a special blessing as you ponder over these.

Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, but faith looks up.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly, and trust in our Creator who loves us.

We win our battles by faith in God.
Stay in faith – be a person of excellence.
My faith gets God’s attention.
Without faith, there is no joy, no peace, and no hope.
The attitude of faith brings us into rest.
Faith, like muscle, is strengthened by using it, not talking about it.
We live by faith, not by feelings.
Step forward in faith.
Have enough faith to trust God in his time.
Walk by faith; don’t dwell on never getting out of debt.
Faith makes all things possible… Love makes all things easy.
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.
The greatest asset is faith.
Stumble into God’s blessing, stay in faith, and walk into God’s favor.
Faith is what the word of God is: substance and evidence.
Radical faith gets radical results.
Justification happens through faith.
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible, and receives the impossible.
Faith is the art of holding onto things in spite of your changing moods or circumstances.
Faith isn’t faith until it is all you are holding onto.
Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.
Faith produces good works.
Faith is not the price that buys God’s blessings. It is the hand that receives His blessing. The price was paid for us by Jesus Christ on the cross.
One door closed and another door opened. The challenge of faith is not to let a closed door be the end of the goal.
Faith isn’t faith until it’s all you are holding on to.
We overcome discouragement by having faith in God’s Word.
Faith comes from hearing the Word of God.
Faith produces good works.
Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservation.
Faith gives feet to belief.
Weak faith says “God can.” Great faith says “God will.” But godly faith
says ‘It’s done.”
Semper Fidelis is the Marine slogan: it means “always faithful.”
The attitude of faith brings us into rest.
During the difficult times, isn’t it nice to remember that Moses was a “basket case.” Hang in there and keep the faith!

Linda sent me another quote: “Faith has to be activated if it is to work and one of the ways we activate it is through our words.” In the margin she wrote: “This is you, Linda.”

Together we discuss our feelings about all topics in our disabled lives. Because of our Christian beliefs, we have traveled together through our studies, beliefs, doubts, and any lack of knowledge we find ourselves experiencing. We have discussed our personal ups and downs, pain and suffering, and listened to each other share events in our lives. She is a better “listener” than I am, but we are both believers in “keeping the faith” even through the rough times. (Perhaps God called her to be a “listener” to me after he called me to be a “speaker” or “writer” to others.) By listening to my rough drafts, she has made me a better writer!
