SALISBURY — A Harrisburg man remains in the Rowan County jail after he was caught by a police officer inhaling fumes from an air duster canister in a business parking lot.

Salisbury police charged Adam Michael Bowen, 31, of the 8400 block of Wellington Lane, with misdemeanor inhaling fumes for the purpose of causing intoxication. He is under a $1,000 secured bond.

Police say someone called from outside Office Depot, 715 E. Innes St., just before 5:30 p.m. Monday to say they were concerned about someone in the parking lot getting high on air can fumes, said police Capt. Shelia Lingle. When an officer arrived, he spotted a white man in the driver’s seat of a GMC Sonoma. The officer knocked on the passenger-side window but got no response.

The officer repeatedly tried to get the attention of the man, who still had a can in his hand. The officer went to the driver’s side and knocked, but got no response. He opened the door and the man’s hand was still on the trigger, sending fumes into the vehicle.

The man came to after several attempts by the officer to awaken him.

Police found nine discarded cans of air duster lying on the passenger floorboard.
