Today: In Memory of Ayanna

On Saturday, April 15, Southern City AME Zion Church, 940 S. Long St., is hosting the inaugural Youth Empowerment Bible Study for ages 7-17. The group will meet every Saturday from noon-1 p.m. There will be pizza, chips and drinks. Other community churches are invited to participate and host the study on a rotating basis. Call Rev. CHINA GROVE — Mt. Moriah Lutheran church, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, will host an Easter egg hunt today from 2-4 p.m.

CHINA GROVE — Today at 10 a.m. is the annual Mt. Zion UCC, 1415 S. Main St., Easter egg hunt.

Providence UMC

Providence United Methodist Church’s sunrise service at Dan Nicholas Park starts at 7 a.m. Sunday at the amphitheater. This is an outdoor service, so dress accordingly, and bring a blanket or seat cushions. In case of inclement weather the service will be held at Providence Church. Breakfast follows the service in the fellowship hall. There will also be a Celebration Service at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Providence is located at 6450 Bringle Ferry Road

Mt. Tabor UMC

Faith Lutheran

FAITH — Faith Lutheran Church will celebrate Easter Sunday beginning with a 6:30 a.m. sunrise service at Faith Baptist Church. Faith Baptist, Shiloh Reformed and Faith Lutheran combine each year to have a service for the whole community. Randy Drafts, pastor of Faith Lutheran, will deliver the message.

Afterward, Faith Lutheran’s Stewardship and Evangelism Teams will sponsor the SonRise Breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Christian Education will sponsor a Sunday school fair at the same time where each Sunday school class displays information on what they are currently studying and what ministries they provide. Everyone is invited to bring fresh flowers to decorate a living cross that will be displayed on the church lawn.

The Easter Resurrection service at 10:30 a.m. includes a handbell prelude and choir processional. and a presentation by the Chancel Choir under the direction of Tony Herrin and accompanied by soloist Daisy Bost. Holy Communion will be celebrated. Faith Lutheran Church is located at 205 South Main St. in Faith.

Sherrills Ford Road Baptist

Sherrills Ford Rd Baptist Church, 6455 Sherrills Ford Road, starts its Easter celebration on Sunday with a service at 8 a.m. followed at 9 a.m. with a hot breakfast and a service at 10 a.m. There will be no Sunday School.

The Arbor UMC

The Arbor United Methodist Church, 5545 Woodleaf Road, will hold an Easter Sunday sunrise service at 7 a.m. with Sunday school at 8:30 and morning worship at 9:30 a.m. Note the change in the usual times for Sunday school and worship that day.

Luther’s Lutheran 

On Sunday, Luther’s Lutheran church will host an Easter sunrise service at 7 a.m. with breakfast at 8 a.m. and the regular Easter service at 11 a.m. Luther’s Lutheran is in Rowan County at the corner of Stokes Ferry and Richfield Roads.

Christiana Lutheran

On Sunday at 6:30 a.m., is the sunrise service at Christiana followed by breakfast and then the regular service of Holy Communion at 10:30 a.m. Christiana Lutheran Church is located at 6190 US Highway 52, 704-279-4655, www.christianaelc.org

Immanuel Lutheran 

ROCKWELL — The Immanuel Lutheran Easter Sunday sunrise service begins at 6:30 a.m. in the sanctuary with a formal procession and the re-lighting of the Lenten Cross. The choir, under the direction of Dr. Rob, will perform a mini-cantata of Easter selections featuring Judy Harwood as soloist.

The Easter Bunny will visit during the children’s sermon. Afterward is a complimentary breakfast prepared by the Men’s Sunday school class. There will be no Sunday school or 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Bruce Sheeks is host pastor.

Lilly’s Chapel hosts joint service

Lilly’s Chapel, Rose of Sharon and The Potter’s House will have a joint sunrise service at Lilly’s Chapel Church, 613 West Thomas St., on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. The speaker is Pastor Reginald Long. Breakfast will be served.

First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church, 308 W. Fisher St. at the corner of S. Fulton and W. Innes Streets, will have three services on Easter Sunday: Sanctuary services: 8:30 and 11 a.m.; Life Center Worship: 8:50 a.m.

St. Paul’s

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, Easter services begin at 6:30 a.m. with the sunrise service including special music and Holy Communion. Easter breakfast follows in the fellowship hall, served by the youth groups. Contributions will be accepted the youth program.

The Easter service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with special music and Holy Communion. Weather permitting, both services will be concluded in the cemetery.

He’s Alive Church

Sunrise service at Camp Barnhardt

NEW LONDON — Several of the churches in the New London community will join together for an Easter Sunrise Service at Camp Barnhardt at the amphitheater on Sunday, April 16, beginning at 6:45 A.M. The Rev. James L. Pyatt, pastor of New London UMC, will be preaching, and Mr. Daniel Dickens, a Music Educator at Richfield and Aquadale Elementary Schools and pianist at New London UMC, will lead the music.

Organ Lutheran 

Easter sunrise service at Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, is at 7 a.m. in Old Historic Organ Church.

A country ham breakfast immediately follows in the fellowship hall. Proceeds from the breakfast will go to send children to Confirmation Camp. At 9:30 is Sunday school and at 10:30 is the worship service in the new church. The Rev. Carlin Ours is host pastor.

Landmark Church

GRANITE QUARRY — White Rock AME Zion Church will host a joint sunrise service with Antioch Baptist Church on Easter Sunday at 6 a.m. Rev. Ricky Johnson of Antioch Baptist Church will deliver the message. Breakfast will be served immediately after service. Rev. Thomas D. Lee is host pastor.

Mt. Olivet UMC

CONCORD — Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church will host a sunrise service on Sunday at 6:48 a.m. at Carolina Memorial Gardens by the Tower. Breakfast will follow in the fellowship hall.

Resurrection Sunday Program 

The Word of Life Family Worship Center Drama Ministry will honor Resurrection Sunday with a special program during the 10 a.m. service. CHINA GROVE — A Resurrection Celebration will be held at South China Grove Baptist Church on Sunday beginning with a sunrise service at 7:15 a.m. in the parking lot in back of the church, followed by breakfast in the Family Life Center. Landis First Assembly

LANDIS — Landis First Assembly, 302 E. Corriher St. just off S. Chapel Street, will present “The Easter Story” at a special 10 a.m. service on Sunday. The script and music were write by Jeri Beck and the presentation is co-directed by Beck and Katheryn Earnhardt.

The cast features seven scene introducers: Kevin Banos, Sandy Banos, Joseline Diaz, Perry Kesler, Sara Mendoza, Isaac Raye and Tyler Raye. Character parts are played by Chris Hudson (Jesus), Rick Jordan (Barabbas), Audina Banos (angel), Yolanda Raye (angel), Charissa Blount (Mary), Greg Blount (Pilate) and Perry Kesler (Roman soldier). Pastor Bill Coughlin and Dr. Gary Price will serve communion.

Holy Cross Lutheran

MOCKSVILLE — The Easter sunrise service at Holy Cross Church, US Highway 601 South. The is at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast, prepared and served by the men of the congregation. At 9 a.m. the traditional Easter worship service will be held, with Holy Communion. Soldiers Memorial women’s meeting

Soldiers Memorial AME Zion Church Women’s Fellowship will meet Monday, April 17 at 11 a.m. in the church’s Enrichment Center at 306 N. Church St. A health and fitness trainer will provide valuable information. Lunch will be served.

Revival at Moore’s Chapel AME Zion

First Calvary Baptist Gospel Explosion

First Calvary Baptist Church is hosting a Gospel Music Explosion Saturday, April 22, at 5 p.m., held in memory of its founder the late Charles McGee, who sponsored the event annually as a part of First Calvary’s Gospel Choir Anniversary Celebration. McGee was known in Salisbury, Rowan and surrounding counties for his personal ministry through music and as a member of several musical groups.

Program participants include The Carriers of Joy, Unity in Praise, Fairview Heights Gospel Choir, Keith Holland and Friends N Christ, and Echoes for Christ. McGee served on the Deacon and Trustee Boards, and was a member of the Men’s, Adult and Gospel choirs at First Calvary. He worked with youth sports leagues for many years and received several awards, including the Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Humanitarian Award. This annual tribute to his memory is free and family friendly. Rev. Leamon E. Brown is pastor of First Calvary which is located at 400 S.
