Prep Golf: Lyerly leads Mustangs to victory at Warrior

CHINA GROVE — East Rowan, led by Nick Lyerly and Bryson Sprinkle, edged South Rowan by one stroke to win a nine-hole South Piedmont Conference match at Warrior Golf Club on Thursday.
Lyerly carded a 33 and Sprinkle added a 36, half of the Mustangs’ team score of 152. Austin Miller followed with a 40 for East and Will Garland shot a 43.
South Rowan followed at 153, led by Parker Chavis’ 35 and Landon Johnson’s 37. Andrew Hubbard shot a 40 and Andrew Coward a 41.
Concord took third place (154), led by Stephen Carroll’s 38. Cox Mill followed at 159 and Carson was fifth with a 166.
Carson was led by Patrick Street and Zain Tucker, both finishing with 39s. Michael McCall shot a 40 and Jacob Taylor had a 48 for the Cougars.
Other team scores were: Hickory Ridge (171), Robinson (173), Central Cabarrus (176), West Rowan (193) and Northwest Cabarrus (did not finish).
West Rowan’s top two scorers were Braxton Corriher (44) and Davis Tadlock (48).
Another conference match is scheduled for next Monday at Cabarrus Country Club and then the SPC Tournament will follow on April 12 at Warrior Golf Club.
