SALISBURY — State troopers are looking for a silver Buick and two unknown individuals following a fatal hit-and-run on Airport Road.

Nicolas Ramos Cruz, 38, was killed Friday around 10 p.m. after being struck by a vehicle while walking home on Airport Road, between Hickory Lane and Overbrook Road, according to Sgt. G.A. Barger of the N.C. Highway Patrol. On Saturday afternoon, there were no known suspects in the incident. Barger said officers are looking for an older-model, boxy-type Buick that’s silver in color.

A white male and white female in their 30s were also seen at the scene of the incident, Barger said. The pair are suspected to be connected to the death of Cruz.

On Saturday afternoon, there was limited information about the accident. Barger said there were no skid marks at the scene of the accident on Airport Road. Cruz had a scuff mark on his back.

Cruz also had lottery tickets in his possession. It’s possible that he had just purchased lottery tickets from a nearby convenience store and was walking toward his home on Airport Road, Barger said.

It’s not clear exactly how the accident occurred. However, Cruz was walking in the same direction as the vehicle that struck him, Barger said.

After the accident, a witness saw the white male and female standing outside of the silver Buick and “acting nonchalant” at the scene of the incident. The same people were not at the scene when officers arrived, Barger said.

Two women who called 911 to report the incident unsuccessfully attempted CPR on Cruz.

Barger said officers do not believe Cruz consumed alcohol before he was struck and killed.

Barger said anyone with information about the accident can dial *hp or *47 on a cellphone or 911.
