Organizers are asking for the public’s support for a weekend event to raise funds to help aid in the search for a missing Newton man.

Nearly a year ago, 24-year-old Andy Sigmon went missing after his vehicle was found abandoned along East N.C. 64, just north of Peter Hairston Road, in Davie County.

Sigmon was last seen wandering in a wooded area without a shirt and shoes.

Several organizations including CUE Center for Missing Persons, the AWARE Foundation Inc. and the Lost and Found and the Wanted have helped spread the word about Andy’s disappearance. These organizations have physically helped search, hosted awareness events or rallies and shared Andy’s story via social media.

The AWARE Foundation Inc. has organized Andy Sigmon Awareness Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Pigs BBQ, 1904 N. Main Ave., Newton. The event is to help raise awareness and a fundraiser to help Andy’s family search for him.

There will be live music by Samosely, a “message to Andy” balloon release and face painting.

A candlelight vigil and prayer balloon release is scheduled for April 4 to commemorate the last day Andy was seen. The event will be at 6 p.m., Renwood Mills, 11 N. Brady Ave., Newton.

Gail Sigmon has said her son has no known connection to Mocksville and she didn’t know why he would’ve been in the area.

The Davie County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating Sigmon’s disappearance. Officers responded to the area around 2:30 p.m. on April 5 and spoke with Andy Sigmon. Detectives said he didn’t seem distressed or even in need of help. He told an officer he was leaving the area.

Later the same day, witnesses said they saw a man who matched Andy Sigmon’s description walking around in the woods. The man was acting strangely, the witnesses said.

The Newton resident was last seen wandering in a wooded area in Davie County without a shirt and shoes. His abandoned vehicle was found alongside East N.C. 64, just north of Peter Hairston Road.

Anyone with information about Andy Sigmon’s disappearance is asked to contact the Davie County Sheriff’s Office at 336-751-6238.
