SALISBURY — Jonathan Wolff, an internationally known leader in the Montessori community, will present a workshop at Yadkin Path Montessori for parents and teachers on Tuesday.

The workshop will run from 6 to 7:30 pm.

Wolff is a consultant, trainer, speaker and author who has 30 years of experience as an educator and administrator.

After earning his B.A. in secondary education at Temple University, Wolff began teaching at-risk youth in Philadelphia. Early in his career, he read several books on the Montessori philosophy and became a believer in its benefits for young people as well as adults.

He went on to study with Mother Isabelle Eugenie and earned his early-childhood credentials through the Association Montessori Internationale. He began his career as a Montessori educator at one of the first Head Start Montessori centers in the United States.

The founder and director of “Learning for Life,” he has held positions as teacher trainer, director of education and training for education and business organizations, and as the administrator for nationally recognized schools.

The Montessori method of education, developed by Italian physician Maria Montessori, is a child-centered approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. It is based on self-directed activity and hands-on learning. Children make choices in their learning, supported by the classroom environment and a teacher who guides the process.

Yadkin Path Montessori provides child care for children 6 weeks to 6 years old and is designed to provide an environment that encourages skills acquisition, independence, awareness of others, and a lifelong love of work and learning.
