Prep Golf: East, Concord tie at Irish Creek

Staff report

South Piedmont Conference golf is very competitive this season, and East Rowan needed a 3-under 32 from UNC Greensboro signee Nick Lyerly just to tie Concord at 147 in Tuesday’s nine-hole match.

Northwest Cabarrus hosted the match at The Club at Irish Creek.

Lyerly was medalist. He birdied four holes — 2, 5, 6 and 7. He bogeyed No. 4.

East’s other leaders were Bryson Sprinkle (37) and William Garland (38). Will Peeler and Austin Miller shot 40s. The best four scores count toward the team score.

East Carolina signee Stephen Carroll is always strong for Concord. He shot 35 on Tuesday, while three teammates shot 38 or better.

South Rowan shot 152 for third place. Parker Chavis, a Pfeiffer signee, led the Raiders with a 36. Andrew Coward (37), Andrew Hubbard (39) and Landon Johnson (40) also turned in strong rounds.

Carson finished sixth. Pfeiffer signee Patrick Street shot 36 for the Cougars, bouncing back from a tough day on Monday at Cabarrus Country Club. Zain Tucker shot 39 for Carson.

Braxton Corriher’s 43 led West Rowan. The Falcons finished eighth.

Team scores: East Rowan 147, Concord 147, South Rowan 152, Hickory Ridge 160, Cox Mill 168, Carson 172, Robinson 179, West Rowan 196, NW Cabarrus 202, Central Cabarrus no score.

A series of nine-hole matches, with each of the 10 league teams hosting, lead up to the 18-hole season finale that will be played at Warrior Golf Club on April 12.
