The spring class for those who are interested in learning to run to improve their overall fitness kicks off Tuesday, March 21. This is an eight-week series of once-a-week class meetings, followed by a run of increasing distance. All classes meet at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in the cafeteria meeting room, just behind the lobby information desk.

Participants will hear from professionals on class topics that include shoes and equipment, running form, nutrition, stretching and strengthening, injury prevention and safety. Attendees should come ready to run/walk a half mile on the first night and distances will increase throughout the series until everyone can run 3.1 miles. Bring a pen, water bottle and wear comfortable shoes to the first class. Please do not buy new shoes before attending.

A $65 registration fee covers cost of the classes, entry into one 5K race, a training shirt and membership in the Salisbury Rowan Runners for a year. The fee is payable at the first meeting. Individual instruction will be part of the program.

Beginning Runners Classes are sponsored by Novant Health, Salisbury Parks and Recreation and the Salisbury Rowan Runners. Check www.salisburyrowanrunners.org or call 704-310-6741.
