Staff report
Wednesday started out bitterly cold in Rowan County, with temperatures about 24 degrees and gusty winds from the west. The winds might have been helpful because the frost did not settle on cars, grass or trees.
Still, losses are likely for the state’s fruit farmers.
Another freeze warning is in effect until 11 a.m. today. The forecast calls for a high of 47 and a low of 23 tonight.
In addition to the freeze warnings, the area is under increased chance of wildfires because of the low humidity and high winds.
Friday night will bring a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., with a low of 46. Saturday’s high is forecast at 65 with a 50 percent chance of showers through the day.
