The ACBL has chosen Eldon Clayman, one of our regional favorites, to be the 2017 Aileen Osofsky Goodwill Member of the Year. Eldon has been a friend and an encouragement to all of us for many years. We have gone to games in the Clayman home in Valdese and regular games in the Morganton clubs. Most of us have gone to at least one of the four sectionals held in Morganton and received many of our points there. Before Eldon’s wife Suzie died in 2014, she was instrumental in providing the food that made that tournament famous. She is sorely missed, but Eldon has carried on wel. Congratulations, good friend, for winning this well-deserved award.

This Friday, March 17, is the beginning of our three-day Salisbury sectional tournament. I hope you all have partners or are on our list for partners and plan to come. It is a full and fun filled week-end.

On Friday, March 3 Evergreen game our winners were: N/S 1st Pat Macon and Becky Creekmore, 2nd Marie Pugh and Ruth Bowles, 3rd Joe O’Brien and Genny Mozolak; E/W 1st Margaret and Chuck Rimer,2nd Carol Bachl and Judy Gealy, 3rd Fern Albracht and Christy Cline.

Genny Mozolak and Joe O’Brien had the best N/S score bidding 3NS making 4 while Patty King and BettyBonner Steele were best E/W defeating 2NS 3 tricks. A spade lead (4th from longest and strongest) allows the contract to be made while a diamond lead defeats it.

On March 7 our Women’s Club winners were: 1st Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin, 2nd Shirley and Ron Jeffers, 3rd Fern Albracht and Myrnie McLaughlin, 4th Ruth Bowles and Jean Hill.
