Area Sports Briefs: Senior stars to play at North on March 25

The annual all-star game for Rowan County basketball seniors is set for March 25 at North Rowan.
Players need to sign up by contacting Coach Anderw Mitchell, AD Ben Hampton or Henderson Lentz.
The festivities include a dunk contest and 3-point shooting contest. The girls all-star game is at 5 p.m., while the boys all-star game is at 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5.
Prep golf
In a match at Mooresville Golf Club on Thursday, Hough won with a 146 score. South Rowan shot 156 for second place. South Iredell (164) was third and Mooresville (171) was fourth.
South Rowan’s Parker Chavis shot 1-under 35 and tied for medalist honors.
Andrew Coward shot 39, Andrew Hubbard shot 40, and Landon Johnson shot 42. Andrew Jackson carded a 46.
Prep baseball
Davie County pulled out a 3-1 win against R.J. Reynolds in Central Piedmont Conference play on Thursday.
Ben Sommers and Jake Barneycastle had big hits in the sixth as Davie (5-1, 2-0) broke a 1-all tie.
Carson Whisenhunt went the distance on the mound. He allowed three hits and struck out six.
Cody Hendrix had two hits. Chris Reynolds tripled and scored.

The Greater Cabarrus Stallions were swept in a doubleheader by the Carolina, falling 12-8 in the opener and 4-3 in the second game.
Leading hitters for the Stallions in Game 1 were Dalton Lankford with three and Seth Cauble and A.J. Knight with two each.
Lankford had a two-run double in the second game.
The Stallions host SouthLake Christian on Monday
Prep tennis
A.L. Brown won against South Rowan, 5-3, on Thursday.
Prep softball
Carson’s softball team won a non-conference game, against South Stanly, 16-8. Rylie Stewart went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Kaitlyn Honeycutt had four hits, including three doubles, and drove in three runs. Kaitlyn Stout went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Jess Freeze had three hits and drove in two runs.
Krista Peninger had two hits and scored three runs. Madison Barnhardt had two hits and scored three times.
Women’s hoops
Khaila Hall (West Rowan) scored 21 points for Longwood on 9-for-16 shooting in Wednesday’s 65-59 loss to UNC Asheville in the Big South Tournament.

College swimming
Catawba freshman Joao Barreto earned a point at the Division II Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday as he finished 16th in the 100 butterfly.
Sacred Heart soccer
Sacred Heart’s girls soccer team won against Salisbury Academy, 5-2.
Theresa Holland had a hat trick for the Dolphins. Sutton Webb scored on a corner kick, and Mabel Harrison added the last goal. Caroline Clark was solid in goal.
