Area Sports Briefs: Davie boys earn upset win

Heath Slabach scored 25 points to lead Davie County’s boys basketball team to a 65-51 upset of Reagan on Wednesday in Mocksville.

Dylan Shoffner added 14 points for the War Eagles, who won their second CPC  game of the season.

Reagan won the girls game, 69-47.

Davie’s boys lost to Mount Tabor, 81-70, on Tuesday in CPC action.

Davie got 18 points from Owen McCormack and 17 from  Slabach.

North girls win

  Bea Connor scored 14 points to lead North Rowan’s girls to a 61-49 Central Carolina Conference win at Thomasville on Tuesday.

It was the fourth win of the season for North and the third in the CCC.

Brianna White added 12 points,  and Aundrea Godfrey scored nine for the Cavaliers.

The 61 points marked a season-high offensive output for the Cavaliers.

Thomasville’s boys clinched the CCC title with a 69-62 win against North Rowan.

South boys lose

  Lavar Batts Jr. scored his 2,000th career point on a reverse dunk as Robinson cruised to a 76-39 win against  South Rowan.

Batts Jr. led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Garrett Harrington had eight points and 10 rebounds to lead the Raiders. Cam Corriher scored seven points.

East boys lose

East Rowan’s boys basketball team lost to  Central Cabarrus, 88-70, on Tuesday in SPC action.

East scored 48 points in the second half but allowed 60. Central scored 40 points in the third quarter. East had 31 in the fourth.

Ellis Taylor scored 17 points for the Mustangs on Senior Night. Brandon Jefferson had a career-high 16, Tyler Scruggs scored a career-high 14, and Gabe Hinceman added 12.

Isaiah Salter led the Vikings with 21 points.

A.L. Brown girls win

Akeena Maxwell scored 18 points to lead A.L. Brown to a 56-55 win against West Charlotte.

Nikki Lyerly added 16 for the Wonders (5-15, 2-9 SPC), and Shemya Stanback scored nine.

Jayvee girls

Jaylee Usher scored 13 points to lead East Rowan’s girls to a 23-13 win against Central Cabarrus.

Carson and Hickory Ridge battled to a 21-all tie.

  Malia Hughley led Carson with nine points.

Nancy Gamewell and Victoria Post were defensive standouts for the Cougars.

  

College baseball

Catawba’s baseball team lost, 12-9, at Belmont Abbey on Tuesday.

Jackson Raper, a freshman third baseman from Robinson, went 4-for-4 for the Indians (2-3) and drove in three runs. Zac Almond also had four hits for Catawba.  Nick Coble drove in two runs. Malachi Hanes hit his first homer.

Nick Beinlich hit two of BA’s four homers.
