WSSU celebrates 50th anniversary of national championship

This weekend, Winston-Salem State University is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 1967 men’s basketball team. The squad, coached by legendary Clarence “Big House” Gaines, was the first historically black college team to win an NCAA Division II championship. All-CIAA, All-American, and future NBA legend Earl “The Pearl” Monroe (No. 10) averaged 41.5 points per game and was named NCAA Division II Player of the Year. For more information, see www.wssu.edu
