Public’s help sought in identifying man involved in robbery

Staff report

SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in finding the person who robbed the Speedway gas station on Peeler Road near Interstate 85.

About 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 26, a black man wearing a black hoodie shirt and black bandana covering his lower face like a mask entered the Speedway gas station.

He approached the clerk with his hand in his pocket as if holding a gun, then threw a red backpack at the clerk. The suspect demanded that the clerk put money in the bag. He then left the store.

Attempts to locate the man using K-9 units were unsuccessful. Police have still images of the suspect from the store’s surveillance footage.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Detective Ollie Greene, 704-216-8686, or Lt. Chad Moose, 704-216-8687. To remain anonymous and possibly collect an award of up to $1,000, submit information via the website http://tips.salisburyrowancrimestoppers.org/ or by calling the Salisbury-Rowan Crime Stoppers at 866-639-5245.
