State party candidates speak to Rowan Democrats

Candidates for the N.C. Democratic Party’s top positions spoke to about 100 local Democrats on Saturday.
During a breakfast meeting at the party’s headquarters on West Innes Street, former state Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin spoke and sought support to become the state party’s chairman.
Matt Hughes, the current Orange County Democratic Party chairman who is seeking the statewide position of second vice chairman, also spoke.
Kannapolis resident Veleria Levy, the current second vice chairwoman, is running for first vice chairman of the state party.
Those gathered also responded positively to reports of local participants in the Women’s Marches in Washington and Charlotte. The 100 attendees also heard updates from the local groups Women for Justice, the Peace Circle and Healthy Rowan as well as details about the Moral March on Raleigh scheduled for Feb. 11.
