Rowan weather: High winds lead to fire danger

Today will feel like winter. We’re starting out at 29 degrees, and sunny skies should bring us to a high of just 43.

But those winds won’t quit, blowing west at 10-14 mph, gusting up to 23 mph throughout the day. And because of those winds, we have an increased fire danger.

Relative humidity will be low, around 30 percent this afternoon, leading to a higher chance of fire and of small fires spreading. Use extreme caution if burning and check with the Forest Service, 704-216-8993 or 8994 to see if any burning bans are in effect.

Tonight will be mostly clear and cold, with a low of 26. Winds will calm and shift to the south southwest around 6 mph after midnight.

Tuesday will be sunny and warmer, with a high of 58. Now the wind will be from the southwest at 9-16 mph, with gusts up to 26 mph.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy and 37, with southwest wind at 5-9 mph, calming after midnight.

Wednesday will be partly sunny and 60, with winds from the southwest at just 5-7 mph. The low will be 38.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and 52, with no wind mentioned. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 32.

Friday will be partly sunny and cooler, with a high around 45. The low will be 28 under mostly cloudy skies.

The weekend will be on the chilly side, with a high Saturday of 45 under mostly cloudy skies. The low will be 29.

The high Sunday will be 44, with a 30 percent chance of rain and mostly cloudy skies.
