Rowan weather: Lots of wind today and Friday

We’re starting out damp with showers and even a thunderstorm possible before 10. The chance of rain is 80 percent. The high will be 57.

But the real problem today will be the wind. Blowing from the west northwest at 11-16 mph, gusts could reach 29 mph or more. If gusts reach 40 mph, a wind advisory will be issued.

Tonight will be clear and cold, with a low of 31. West winds will continue at 10-13 mph, with gusts up to 22 mph.

Friday will be sunny and much cooler, with a high of 44. West northwest winds return at 9-16 mph, with gusts up to 28 mph. A clear night will lead to a cold low of 24. West wind will calm in the evening.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and 50. South southwest wind will be just 5-10 mph in the morning. A 20 percent chance of showers moves in after 11 p.m., with a low of 37. Please be careful when celebrating on New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Day will have a 50 percent chance of showers with cloudy skies and a high of 51. Showers are likely Sunday night, with a 60 percent chance of rain. It will be cloudy, with a low of 44.

Monday, too, has a 60 percent chance of rain, with a high of 56 and cloudy skies. The same chance of rain is possible Monday night, with a low of 48.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 64. Tuesday night has the same chance of showers, with a low of 48.

The rain chance tapers off to 30 percent for Wednesday, when it will still be mostly cloudy. The high will be 60.
