GRANITE QUARRY — Rowan Museum is sponsoring its 32nd annual German Christmas Celebration on Saturday and Sunday, December 31 and January 1 at the Old Stone House located outside Granite Quarry.

The house will be decorated as it would have been during pre-Revolutionary days and this year will be the first to feature the rebuilt bake oven making bread. Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday is noon-4 p.m.

Tours of the historic house with stories about how a colonial family celebrated Christmas in Rowan County will highlight the weekend.  Guides in period costumes will be on site, and guests will enjoy learning about customs and participating in crafts, musket firing, woodworking (benches, bowls and spoons), weaving, candle making, open fire cooking with lots of samples, music, children’s games, goats and chickens and much more.

There will be a weekend encampment of the First Regiment of the Mecklenburg Militia/Hopewell Company, as well as baking in our new oven.

Holly sprigs will be available for all to toss into the fire to burn their troubles away for the year, looking forward to a new year.

Admission to the celebration is $5 for adults and $3 for students.  For more information, call the Rowan Museum at 704-633-5946, or email rowanmuseum@fibrant.com

The house is located at 770 Old Stone House Road.
