City and county officials could announce the second, major action aimed at combating crime when they have an emergency meeting today.

Rowan County commissioners and the Salisbury City Council are scheduled to hold the meeting at 9:30 a.m. at Salisbury City Hall — 217 S Main St. The meeting is open to the public. It will be held inside of the Salisbury City Council chambers.

An announcement about the meeting only said the city council and commissioners would discuss “an interlocal agreement to provide for public safety.”

Today’s meeting comes amid fallout from the murder of 7-year-old A’yanna Allen, who was shot in killed while she was sleeping in her grandmother’s home.

On Wednesday, the city and county announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for Allen’s death. During a news conference, Commissioners Chairman Greg Edds and Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander said there would be more announcements to come.
