SALISBURY — On #GivingTuesday, Food Lion celebrated the season of giving with the gift of food.

For the third year in a row, Food Lion Feeds, the philanthropic arm of Food Lion, made a $10,000 donation, or 110,000 meals, to Feeding America. The donation also supports the company’s “Holidays Without Hunger” in-store campaign.

“Food Lion is committed to ending hunger in the towns and cities we serve,” said Christy Phillips-Brown, director of external communications and community relations at Food Lion.

“Programs like ‘Holidays Without Hunger’ and our hunger-relief partners, Feeding America and food banks in our key communities, help us make progress toward that goal.”

From now until Dec. 20, customers can purchase and donate a specially-marked “Holidays Without Hunger” food box for $5, while supplies last, or make a cash donation at checkout.

One hundred percent of cash donations benefit the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, the largest domestic hunger-relief charity. Food boxes are donated directly to a local hunger-relief food bank, food pantry or meal program.
