CHINA GROVE — The town council on Monday could finalize an ordinance that allows alcohol sales during special events and other approved instances.

The China Grove town council has scheduled a meeting for 6 p.m. Monday to discuss a proposed alcohol ordinance, economic development and goals for 2017. The meeting will be held at Town Hall — 333 N. Main Street.

For the past few months, the town council has discussed the alcohol ordinance during its meetings. During its latest meeting, the council delayed consideration of the measure until it gathered more input from local residents. The ordinance specifically allows alcohol sales during special events held on public property, at the community center after being approved by town staff and within a permitted dining area that’s located on a sidewalk, street or “right-of-way” area in the central business district between 10:30 a.m. and 2 a.m.

Monday’s agenda does not specificy what type of economic development issue the town council will be discussing.

The final item — goal planning for 2017 — will allow council members plan for the coming year.
