Vigil tonight for West senior killed in crash

SALISBURY — A prayer vigil will be held tonight for a West Rowan High School senior who died after a car accident on Sunday night.

Ella Ferguson, 17, was driving on Mooresville Road and hit a tree near the 3000 block around 8 p.m., according to the Highway Patrol.

Mooresville Road was shut down for about an hour while Ferguson was airlifted to the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where she later died.

The Rev. Brian Hancock, youth pastor of Neel Road Baptist Church, has organized a prayer gathering to be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the church.

The church is at 135 Neel Road.

N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper E.B. Perdue investigated the crash. Locke Fire Department also responded.
