Area Sports Briefs: Davie tennis rolls on

Davie County advanced to the third round in the girls tennis 4A state playoffs for the first time.
The War Eagles (16-0) won, 5-2, against T.C. Roberson on Tuesday.
Laura Becker won at No. 1 singles and teamed for a No. 1 doubles win with Sierra Foster. Davie also got singles wins from Jennifer Ngo, Annie Kinder and Claire Myers.

East Rowan lost at Kings Mountain, 7-0, in the 3A playoffs.
In the 2A playoffs, Salisbury lost, 6-0, at Maiden.

College hoops
David Tripp (A.l. Brown) had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Davidson County Community College to a 99-55 win against Hines Prep on Tuesday.

College volleyball
Catawba won, 3-2, against Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday.
Rachel Stanford had 53 assists. Meredith Furr had 28 digs. Bri Howard, Alex Hopper and McKenzie Garrison had 13 kills each.

Winston-Salem State’s Makala Lytton (North Rowan) was named CIAA Rookie of the Week for the second straight week.
She had 21 digs against Belmont Abbey.

Livingstone (8-15, 5-9 CIAA) swept Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte.
Jekisha Rhymes had the big kill that won the second set, 28-26.

College soccer
Lincoln Memorial advanced to the semifinals of the South Atlantic Conference men’s tournament with a 2-1 win at Catawba on Tuesday.
Catawba scored first when Tim Frederik-Lange assisted on a goal by Daniele Proch in the ninth minute. Joe Gonzalez made seven saves for the Indians (10-7).

Pfeiffer senior forward Santi Moar has been named NSCAA National Player of the Week.
The senior forward recorded three goals on the week.

Catawba’s women’s soccer season ended on Tuesday when Carson-Newman scored a pair of goal in the final 15 minutes to claim a 2-0 win.
Shannon Hardy made five saves for the Indians.
Catawba finished 6-8-1.

Local golf
Sixty-six GARS members played at Warrior.
Low ‘A’ player was Ray Pope with a net of 63.97.
Low ‘B’ player was Tom Talbert with a net of 62.77.
Low ‘C’ player was Ralph Brown with a net of 62.50. Low ‘D’ player was Bob Stepanian with a net of 58.38.
Donald Martin 73, shot 72. Winsten Mahaffey 79, shot 73. Dick Hatoway 84, shot 83. Guy Schenck 84, shot 82. Ralph Brown 85, shot 83, and J.C. Ritchie 91, shot 80.

Bob Herge made a hole-in-one at McCanless on Sunday. Herge used a 9-iron on the 135-yard No. 3 hole.

Prep volleyball
Cox Mill swept North Iredell on Tuesday to advance to the 3A semifinals.

Senior High Church League Basketball League will have a coaches meeting at Hurley YMCA on Monday, Nov. 21.
Games start Dec. 12.
