ROCKWELL — Rowan authorities found a Rockwell man lying in the floor of his bedroom, feet away from nearly a dozen firearms. Officials say he is a convicted felon and is not supposed to be in possession of any guns.

Rowan County Sheriff’s detectives went to 558 Emanuel Church Road to serve Justin Brent Miller with an order for arrest for failure to appear in court.

Initially the man’s father did not want investigators in the house and demanded to see a paper copy of the warrant, said Chief Deputy David Ramsey.

The father had to be detained while officers searched the home. They found Miller in a bedroom in the front part of the house. He was lying on the other side of the bed in the floor. Miller was several feet away from the firearms.

He was arrested and taken before a magistrate. Officials seized 11 firearms from the home.

Miller was released from the federal prison system in 2010. It’s likely that federal authorities will become involved in the case, Ramsey said.

Miller is on probation for an August 2015 conviction for larceny and driving while impaired. He also has convictions for felony drug possession, possession of a firearm by felon, felony larceny of firearms and other drug possession offenses.

He remained in the Rowan County Detention Center on Monday under a $41,000 secured bond.
