SALISBURY — A free Veterans Appreciation Lunch will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 7, a Monday, at the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342, 1024 Lincolnton Road.

The lunch is sponsored by Rowan County Sheriff Kevin Auten, Rowan County Register of Deeds John Brindle and Powles Staton Funeral Home of Rockwell.

The funeral home encourages those attending to bring any used U.S. flags they want to dispose of for its “Retire Your Flag with Honor” program. The funeral home also is accepting new unwrapped toys for its “Operation Toy Soldier,” whose gifts go to children of active military personnel.
