Candidate forums scheduled for county commissioners, school board

SALISBURY — The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce has scheduled two candidate forums in the weeks ahead that are open to the public:

 Rowan County Board of Commissioners: Four candidates for county commissioner will participate in a forum at the chamber’s monthly Power in Partnership breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Trinity Oaks, 728 Klumac Road. Dr. Michael Bitzer of Catawba College will moderate. The cost is $15 per person for chamber members and non-members. “Scholarships” are available for the breakfast for those unable to pay. Reservations with the chamber must be made by Tuesday.

• Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education: Candidates for three seats up for election on the school board will participate in a forum 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at the Wallace Educational Forum, 500 N. Main St. Phil Kirk, former chairman of the State Board of Education, will moderate. There is no charge to attend. Reservations should be made by Oct. 31.

The forums are sponsored by AT&T, the Salisbury Post, Catawba College, WSAT and the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce to educate voters about the candidates and their stands.

Possible questions for the candidates at both forums may be submitted to editor@salisburypost.com (or called in to 704-797-4244), and they will be forwarded to the moderators.

The chamber has established a protocol for those attending the event: Campaign buttons may be worn, but no signs, campaign materials or mascots will be allowed in the buildings. Tables will not be provided for the candidates to display their materials. Please refrain from putting campaign signs on the property.

The forums will be aired on Memories WSAT 1280 and broadcast several times on Channel 16.
