Local Bridge with Myrnie McLaughlin

We have always heard “the 5 level belongs to the opponents.” You need 11 tricks to make the contract, not always so easy to do. If you have bid to push opponents to the 5 level but have a good fit with partner you must decide whether to push on, double, or pass.

Common wisdom is to pass.  But if you know you have a 5 level contract, another option and maybe the best one is to consider a minor suit small slam.

As always, you must consider the bidding of all players and your expected fit with your partner to advance your bid.

The winners at our Friday, Oct. 7 Evergreen game were: 1st Fern Albracht and Pat Macon, 2nd Betty Bills and Beth Shafer, 3rd Pat Featherston and Dick Brisbin, and 4thAnita Graham and Nancy Graham.

There is no featured board this week. I was away at my grandson’s wedding and didn’t have the opportunity to pick one. We will have a hand next week. Thanks to Dick Brisbin for covering our games while I was gone.

Tuesday, Oct. 11 Women’s Club game winners were: tied for 1st /2nd Fern Albracht and Christy Cline with Marie Pugh and Loyd Hill.
