SALISBURY – Novant Health Rowan Medical Center will partner with Rowan-Salisbury School System to host King of the Court, a junior and senior boys volleyball fundraiser that began Oct. 12 and will end at a championship game on Oct. 26 benefiting the Rowan Medical Center Breast Center.

The tournament-style competition began on Oct. 11 at West Rowan High School. The next games will take place at South Rowan, East Rowan and Salisbury high schools, ending in a countywide championship at East Rowan High School on Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

Rockwell Elementary School is also participating with a Pink Out day in honor of school employee Dawn Hathcock, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The funds raised from each team paying to play and the cost of admission of $2 to $3 for preliminary matches depending which location you attend with funds going toward purchasing a 3-D mammography unit for the new Rowan Medical Center mobile coach. The admission for the championship game will be $5.

3-D mammography is the newest development in breast scan technology. The three-dimensional image allows for better viewing of invasive tumors and a decrease in false alarms. The new mobile coach will allow for women to get scanned quickly in places where they work, live and attend activities, with the goal of increasing the number of women who get regular breast checks.

“We are thrilled to get the schools involved in raising awareness of breast cancer and helping to raise money for the Breast Center,” says Marian Walters, Novant Health Foundation Rowan Medical Center development officer. “It’s a great way for the community to come together to fight breast cancer.” All are invited to attend.
