Lee Street theatre will present Tuesdays with Morrie October 13-15 and 20-22 at 7:30 pm each evening. Tickets are $15+tax and available at www.leestreet.org or 704-310-5507.
The script is written by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, based on Albom’s best-selling book. Lee Street theatre’s production is directed by Brian Daye and sponsored by Cloninger Ford.
Tuesdays with Morrie is the autobiographical story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and one last class in the meaning of life.
Director Brian Daye is an actor, writer and director based in Huntersville. His experience spans over 30 years and ranges from feature films to network television to local and regional theatre. Brian has a growing and wonderful relationship with Lee Street theatre – from the staged readings of The Sunset Limited and his own original play The Race, to performing as Hoke Coleburn in Driving Miss Daisy and co-writing and co-directing Voices From The Margin in 2014
Tuesdays with Morrie will be presented “in the round,” a configuration where the stage is surrounded by audience members on all four sides. While this setup poses challenges to Daye and the cast as they must not neglect any side, its advantages include drawing the audience in to form a closer connection with the actors.
All performances are at the Lee Street theatre and Performing Arts Center at the Tom & Martha Smith Event Center, 329 N. Lee St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
