A taste from the world’s oldest brewery
Tomorrow is Salisbury Wine Shop’s regular Friday wine tasting from 5:30-7:30 p.m., featuring Ancient Peaks Vineyards of California ($5/person).
Next Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., taste beer from the oldest brewery in the world. Weihenstephaner has been brewing continuously for 976 years. It is located in Freising, Germany, 25 miles north of Munich. The brewery was established in the year 1040. Cost is only $5/person.

Fall pottery classes
‘Let’s Get Messy’ at Pottery 101 is a two-hour pottery wheel class for ages 14-adult, from 7-9 p.m. Choose Sep. 28, Oct. 12 or 26. Cost $35. This one evening class offers the opportunity to learn the basics of wheel throwing and make and decorate a pot on the potter’s wheel. Spaces is limited to six participants; advance registration required. Pottery made during the class will be ready for pickup two weeks from the class date.
Six week pottery class is designed for beginners and also for those with some experience working with clay. Wheel and glazing techniques will be taught. Cost $175, clay and glazes provided. Classes are Thursdays from 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 13-Nov. 17. Instructor: Keith Meyers.

Tai Chi class begins today
Beginning this evening at 5:30 p.m. and running for eight weeks (through Nov. 17; no class Oct. 13), learn from a nationally certified tai chi instructor. Duke Dash and Healthfest on Saturday

KANNAPOLIS — Fans of fitness, family fun and healthy living will find something for everyone at the Duke Dash 5K & Healthfest on Saturday, and all activities are free.
The festival at the NC Research Campus hosted by Duke University’s MURDOCK Study from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday will feature free yoga, Zumba, line dancing, health screenings, Walk With A Doc and a 5K race. Other free activities will include Touch A Truck, face painting, entertainment, a photo booth and more, plus valuable door prizes.
Carolinas HealthCare System will offer free health education and health screenings, and more than a dozen vendors will be on site. The MURDOCK Study is hosting the event as Duke University’s gift to the community and to the more than 12,200 participants who have joined the study.
The public is invited to enjoy the race, entertainment, vendors and more. Thanks to the enthusiastic response, organizers have closed 5K registration with 400 runners. Cheer on the runners at the finish line in front of the Core Laboratory Building or participate in the 1-mile Walk With A Doc, featuring local physicians.
Welcome tables open at 8:15 a.m. in front of the Core Laboratory Building at 150 Research Campus Drive. The 5K and Walk With A Doc will begin at 9 a.m., and family fun will follow immediately after. Eastwood Baptist raises funds for transplant recipient
