SALISBURY — A Salisbury man who was shot nearly a month ago at an East Bank Street home was charged Wednesday with possession of ecstasy and other items.

Salisbury Police charged Amarillo Deshaun Bryant, 34, of the 800 block of East Lafayette Street, with felony possession of Molly or ecstasy, misdemeanor marijuana possession and misdemeanor resist, obstruct, delay an officer.

On Aug. 30, Bryant was shot in the chest while at an East Bank Street home. Police Chief Jerry Stokes has said the shooting is connected to two others that occurred around the same time. One of those other shootings was a drive-by and the other involved a man who was shot in both legs.

Police received a call about Bryant, who was at Burger King on East Innes Street. Officers went to the restaurant to serve an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. He was spotted in a rented Hyundai. An officer spoke with Bryant and he was searched.

Police found a small bag with what they initially believed was cocaine, but later confirmed to be ecstasy. Bryant lunged forward when the officer put the drugs on the hood of the car. The officer took the man to the ground and was able to get the drugs from Bryant’s mouth. He was placed in the patrol vehicle.

Police also found seven grams of marijuana in Bryant’s groin area, digital scales and two cell phones in the car. They also found a total of $271, some of which was in his pocket and in the car.
