The “Come Tickle Our Ivories”weekend piano project continues — an opportunity for interested pianists to play in public before the downtown Salisbury pianos disappear.
During the “Saturday Soundoff,” come choose any available piano, any time from noon to 4 p.m., on any or all of the September Saturdays. Two more chances to showcase your talent and entertain downtown shopkeepers and shoppers. Time’s running out on this second batch of decorated pianos, so don’t miss out!
Salisbury Symphony’s opening concert

Tickets are now on sale for the Salisbury Symphony’s 50th Anniversary Season which begins Saturday, Sept. 24, with an incredible concert titled “Fifty Years Later.” Concert time is 7:30 p.m. at Keppel Auditorium, Catawba College on Sept. 24.
Appropriately, Music Director David Hagy will begin the concert with variations on “Happy Birthday” by John Williams in which each section of the orchestra has a chance to shine.
The orchestra continues with a particularly challenging musical composition by Richard Strauss, Don Juan. Both musicians and audience will share the story, told musically, of Dan Juan’s search for the perfect love.
The Salisbury Symphony has, in the past, been the orchestra in North Carolina to premiere a brand-new composition by an American composer. This year, we share Chris Theofanidis’ Dreamtime Ancestors, inspired by Australian aboriginal stories.
And who better to end such a special concert than Beethoven? His Piano Concerto No. 5 has been called the “Emperor” because it is so powerful! The pianist,
Frederic Chiu, is known around the world for his brilliant interpretations of great classical music. He’s performed at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Chatelet in Paris and the Mozarteum in Buenos Aires … and now, Salisbury. We are lucky!
We continue the celebration after the concert with coffee and tea, compliments of Mean Mug, served with refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Symphony.
Scrapbooks of the Symphony’s 50-year history, lovingly created and maintained by Vanda Lippert Crowell before her death earlier this year, will be on display in Keppel’s lobby.

PPT’s Youth Theatre Academy
Registration is open for the third season of Piedmont Players Theatre’s Youth Theatre Academy. Director and choreographer Gwen Matthews will guide students through a structured curriculum spanning 16 weeks, beginning next month. The program will begin on Oct. 3, with a break in December and resuming in January. This year’s program will offer three new classes and will expand the age range to include 1st-12th grades.

Second Term: Jan. 23 – March 13, 2017

Singers for Salisbury-Rowan Choral Society

Salisbury Ghost Walk

John Oates, the latter half of famous duo Hall & Oates, will perform LIVE at Lee Street Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 at www.leestreet.org/tickets, or 704-310-5507.
Though it was his partnership with Hall that made him famous, Oates has led a very successful solo career. Since 1999, he has recorded five solo albums. In 2013 he released a series of digital singles featuring collaborations with legendary as well as new rising stars.
The concert will be at the Lee Street theatre, 329 N. Lee St.
