Scholarship awarded

Franklin Presbyterian Church’s Youth Director, Mahaley Jarvis, received the Malissa Fielder Mowery Scholarship for the fall semester toward an associate degree in early childhood education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Mahaley, serving FPC’s children for a year, organizes the Sunday school program, fundraising, outings and vacation Bible school. She utilizes her creative skills to enhance planning and advertising programs. As the wife of M.J. and the mother of Lee, Isabelle, John and Ivan, she leads her family and the children at FPC in Christian growth. She is the daughter of James and Linda Hopper, here in Salisbury, and a graduate of East Rowan High School.

The scholarship serves as a memorial for Mowery by family and friends who were some of the many recipients of her care and encouragement in the church and community. Eager to grow in her own knowledge, she aggressively encouraged continuing education as a means to benefit themselves and more importantly to improve the ability to serve God, family and friends. The Rev. John Elam, Bonnie Williams, Doug Foxworth and Tom Pickett served on the committee with Chair Dr. Telka M. Weant.

Scholarship winner announced

Industrial Supply Solutions (ISSI) announced that the co-winners of NIBA — The Belting Association Presidential Scholarship Award are Raven Corbett and Rachael Bosiljevac.

Corbett, of Salisbury, was a student at University of Wilmington majoring in biology and chemistry. She will begin dental school in the fall. The scholarship is awarded by the NIBA – The Belting Association, a voluntary association of individuals and organizations who have joined together to further the interests of all fabricators, distributors, and manufacturers of belting and related products. The Presidential Scholarship honors all of the past presidents of NIBA for their dedication to NIBA and all distributor/fabricator members.

Corbett is the daughter of Rocky Corbett of Industrial Supply Solutions, Inc. of Salisbury. Rocky Corbett has been with ISSI for over 15 years. During that time, he has worked in integrated supply management, inside sales and purchasing.

Industrial Supply Solutions, Inc. is a wholesale distributor with operations covering North America including 10 states, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas.

 

Clemson University

Local residents are among summer 2016 graduates of Clemson University. They are:

• Skylar Stamey of Landis, who graduated with a master of science in automotive engineering.
• Garrison Nicole Stevens of Salisbury, who graduated with a doctorate in civil engineering.

They were among nearly 1,000 students who received degrees in the Aug. 5 graduation ceremony at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Centre College

Madeleine Nagy of Spencer has been named to the dean’s list for the spring term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average.

Nagy is the daughter of Jille and Christopher Nagy of Spencer and is a graduate of Cannon School.
