Someone delivered to the Post a copy of the 1946 ‘Echo,’ the yearbook for Boyden High School in Salisbury. It’s chock-full of great photographs including this one of the Senior Class officers, who were, from left, Fred Stanback, president; Betty Jane Davis, secretary; Bob Link, treasurer; and John Robert Cauble, vice president. It was common for kids to give each other nicknames then. According to the yearbook, for example, Davis was known as ‘Beejaye.’ Cauble was ‘Corky,’ and Link was ‘Country.’ The yearbook’s three words of description given for Stanback, who today is a great philanthropist and conservationist, were ‘genius,’ ‘dignity’ and ‘efficient.’
