Bridge replacement on Henderson Grove Church Road delayed

At the request of local emergency service agencies, the N.C. Department of Transportation has temporarily delayed plans to replace the bridge carrying Henderson Grove Church Road over Town Creek in Salisbury between Main Street and Peach Orchard Road.

State contractors closed the roadway in both directions on Monday, Aug. 8, and established a detour route using the Norfolk-Southern railroad crossing on Henderson Grove Church Road. Rowan County emergency service agencies were concerned that this detour would potentially delay response times.

In response, the project will now begin in January 2017, after the completion of a portion of the Piedmont Improvement Project two-mile double-track rail section in the project area this fall.

“The completion of this double track work will reduce train delay times once Henderson Grove Church Road crossing is closed,” said Division Nine Resident Engineer Kelly Seitz. “Delaying the project until January will result in a better project for everyone.”
