Over the decades, David Harrison of Salisbury has kept the newspapers documenting significant events in U.S. history, and his collection includes the Salisbury Evening Post from Aug. 17, 1977, the day after music icon Elvis Presley died in Memphis at his Graceland mansion. It’s hard to believe, but Tuesday will mark 39 years since Presley’s death. He was 42, and his official cause of death was heart failure related to addiction to prescription drugs. Presley was born in Tupelo, Miss. This is a photograph of the newspaper from Harrison’s collection.
